"Sunset Camel Safari"

The Mena House, where we stayed, was located right at the edge of the Giza Plateau and very close to the Pyramids. Our guide met us and we walked to where our camels were waiting. Mounting the camels was awkward. Once securely in place, we lumbered off to the base of the Great Pyramid, well over 3,800 years old and one of the 7 wonders of the world. Pictures cannot adequately portray the size of these structures. They are enormous. After climbing up a few rungs of the Great Pyramid, our camels took us to a magnificent viewpoint in the desert to enjoy the sun setting behind the pyramids. Dinner was at the Mena House then back to the Giza Plateau for a sound and light show in the desert. The Great Sphinx and the Pyramids would be lit against the night sky. It was all so spectacular.

The immensity of the pyramid isn't realized until you are standing at the base or on the face. The granite blocks are huge and 2 million of them had to be moved and precisely put into place to create the Great Pyramid. Still today, the construction seems an impossibility by modern standards.
