Boutique Retreat
Inle Heritage
In a valley between two mountain ranges in the western Shan State of Myanmar, a beautiful lake sits, famous for its floating villages and gardens and home to the unique way of life of the local Intha people. After lunch in Nyaungshwe, in the hills surrounding the lake, we were transported to the lakeshore to board a longtail boat to a retreat hotel at the far end. Our lodging for the next three nights.
Ten beautifully designed bungalows built on stilts in the middle of the lake. Organic vegetable gardens surround the main lodge. Each bungalow has a private deck to enjoy spectacular sunsets. The retreat is also a Burmese Cat Sanctuary and a school for young adults to learn about the hospitality industry.

Tom Helps Cooks Lunch

One afternoon for lunch, we visited a home in a nearby water village. The family served us lunch. Tom helped in preparing our lunch. Using their flat-bottom boats, we paddled around the water village.

We travel by boat up a narrow channel to reach Indein Pagodas, a site of 1,000 crumbling Pagodas. We pass scenic rice fields, farmers with their water buffalo, and bamboo forests, against a backdrop of soaring mountain ranges.
