Cape
Town
We landed
in Cape Town
and picked up our
rental car. Once again
upgraded to a brand new
Mercedes. A cottage near the
cape's Botanical Gardens was our
home for the next three nights.

The Cape Cottages
A cable car
took us to the top of Table Mountain.

Wine Country
Stellenbosch Region
The very beautiful region of Stellenbosch was only a thirty min drive from our cottage. Every afternoon
we would drive to one of the wineries for their tasting and then have dinner in their restaurant.

Townships
Townships refer to the impoverished areas of the mother city. They came into existence as a result of discriminatory apartheid rules. The South African government began segregating different races to establish "white-only" areas of major cities including
Cape Town. A direct consequence of racism and man's own disdain for other human beings.
Segregation was enforced in 1902 when Bubonic Plague broke out. Whites put the blame on those uncontrollable hordes and started demanding segregation. They were forced to move to the city's outskirts and became known as townships.

oops!
We made an inquiry about how we could visit a township.

Drank beer
with the locals
in a bar.
Jan had her
hair done in a home nearby.
Told stories of our travels in the country so far.
We had

"It would be best if you do not go alone", we were told.
We thanked them for their information and went anyway.
