We start out on a 2-day drive to "Krugar National Park" through the Mpumalanga Mountains known for their astounding natural beauty: a landscape where cascading waterfalls meet wetlands, deep forests, and savannahs filled with grazing wildlife.

We take a break from the drive and spend a couple of nights in Hazy View, which sets in a valley. A unique B&B with its own resident hippo is located here. We check in to the "Chilli Pepper Lodge" to kick back and relax for a couple of days.

We were given a stern warning!

Do not approach the hippo! The hippo is the most aggressive mammal on Earth. It kills 500 people a year in South Africa.

The property had a beautiful setting. The pool overlooked the pond across the street, where the hippo resided. However, the water in the pool was freezing. Each morning a great breakfast was prepared and served outside on the deck.

On the second day, the owners informed us about a big Shangana Festival happening and that we should not miss it.
