Boat

to

Sagaing

In the morning we transferred to the  Mandalay Jetty to board our private boat for a day trip down the Irrawaddy River to the Sagaing Area, where golden Pagodas lined both sides of the river.  Our boat was 7 boats out from the shore. We couldn't believe it as they laid planks from one boat to another so we could reach it.

The boat slowly made its way down the Irrawaddy River passing 14th-century Sagaing, with its picturesque white hillside pagodas.

These hills have hundreds of monasteries, shrines, golden pagodas and more than 6,000 monks and nuns

The boat docked and horsecarts were ready to carry us to the

ruins of Ava, the Burmese capital from the 14th to 19th Centuries.

Sunset at U bien's Bridge

bnb_edited.png

Maha Gandyon Monastery

We visit the Maha Gandyon Monastery. A strict and unique monastic study culture. We give alms as thousands of monks pass by on their way to the dining hall, for their one meal of the day.

In the late afternoon, we arrive at Ubien's Bridge and hire a boat to view the sunset as a backdrop to this 200-year-old teak structure. The bridge is a mile long and spans the lake over lush, brilliantly green rice paddies. Viewing the people walking across the bridge as it is silhouetted against the brilliant sunset was an

unforgettable experience.
